RMJ English Tuition

Welcome!
I'm Dr Rebecca Jones. I'm a writer, editor/book coach, and tutor of English literature, language and creative writing.
English is my lifelong passion; I love it so much I even took a PhD in it! I became a tutor because I want to help learners of all abilities to find confidence in their own command of English, their writing skills, and their reading comprehension and critical analysis. It is this confidence, nourished through a bespoke approach to tutoring, that builds resilience, enthusiasm, and a love of learning. Whether you want to improve your overall literacy, tackle trickier topics in more depth, or are studying for a specific exam or qualification, I can help.
As a tutor, I understand—and celebrate—individuality. A lesson that works wonderfully for one learner may not be effective for another; ‘one-size-fits-all’ simply isn't a recipe for high quality tuition! I believe in meeting you where you're at, and in recognising and centring your unique needs so that I can properly support and empower you to succeed at English study.
I start by listening to how you feel about English, the challenges you face, what your goals are, and how you envisage achieving them. Then we decide on a learning plan tailored to you and your level of study, preferred learning pace, and objectives. Ongoing discussion and a process of feedback and reflection will shape our methods—so, if we find that something isn’t working for you, we adapt. My tutoring approach is founded on creativity, collaboration, and confidence building. This foundation ensures that we have the best chance of success while working together, and that you get lasting value out of our tuition sessions.
I had the pleasure and privilege of tutoring English and creative writing at the University of Strathclyde for over five years, during which time I received Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) in recognition of the quality of my pedagogical approach and my commitment to creating inclusive, effective and engaging learning spaces. As both a teacher and a marker, I have helped hundreds of students to improve their skills in English and creative writing.
